The story is actually
very simple… I went on a horse safari holiday and fell in love with
Kenya. Five months later I left Florence, Italy and moved to Lake Naivasha
in the Great Rift Valley. It was a classic case of what Italians call,
“mal d’Africa”, when the power of this ancient land goes deep into
your being and there is little you can do to cure yourself except travel
often to the continent, or, of course, move there.
After over ten years in Italy, in which I taught Italian language and
literature, made Tuscan extra virgin olive oil, restored a 17th-century
stone farmhouse and created my own personalised travel consultancy,
“Italy with Nella”, I missed nature and thought often of my native
Northern Californian coast.
And then I came to Africa.
Now I have conflated my academic background with my experience in tourism
by becoming a Professional Safari Guide and creating “Africa with
Nella”.
