Day 1: Nairobi
Arrive at Nairobi’s Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in the morning. I greet you and we spend our first day together discovering the fascinating city of Nairobi and getting over jet lag.
Day 2, 3, and 4: Laikipia
We transfer by private charter to the northern area of Laikipia, well-known for outstanding accommodation, truly successful wildlife conservation and the fascinating Samburu tribe.
You will enjoy walking, riding horses and camels, as well as going on game drives. There are several species endemic to this area of Kenya alone: Gerenuk, Reticulated Giraffe and Grevy’s Zebra are a few of these special residents. Laikipia is a wonderful place to see elephant and the elusive leopard as well. It is the mixture of Acacia trees, wildlife, Samburu and working ranches that makes this region one of my absolute favourites.
Day 5, 6 and 7: Maasai Mara
The Maasai Mara is part of the Serengeti Ecosystem. The Mara is famous for an intense concentration of animals such that a normal game drive of 2 or 3 hours often produces a long list of fascinating sightings. Not only will you have the chance to see lion, cheetah, leopard, wildbeest, zebra, giraffe, warthogs, eagles, hippos and the most enormous crocodiles you’ve ever seen, but you will be able to observe their behaviour in an ideal setting.
It is essential in the Maasai Mara to know which luxury tented camp to use. The wrong camp (or even the right one in the wrong place) can greatly affect the experience. In the camps I use, we are assured of game viewing without other vehicles in the company of highly qualified Maasai guides who respect the animals. The tented camp experience is the perfect combination of safety, comfort and a contact with nature while having a surprisingly luxury experience – the traditional way of being on safari.
Day 8, 9 and 10: Indian Ocean
Going to the beach after safari is a perfect way to relax and soak in the Swahili culture. Kenya’s coastline has a rich history that includes the Portuguese, the Arabs and the Swahili tribe but that is still evolving and changing. Options for accommodation include a private island resort, a private home on a white-sand beach or a mini-cruise on a traditional sail boat.
You can be active and water ski, fish, dive or snorkel in the tropical paradise. There is great shopping and wonderful seafood. Time at the Indian Ocean coastline in Kenya will slow down and you can let it all sink it now.
Day 11: To Nairobi and Home
After lunch, fly to Nairobi by private charter. Transfer to your day hotel where you can freshen up and have a lovely dinner before transferring to the airport for your night flight back home.
Until the next time!
